Getting to Cohen House from Catania Airport
Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) is the nearest international airport to Taormina, located approximately 55 kilometres south. The most comfortable option is a private transfer, which takes about 60 minutes and can be arranged through our concierge service from EUR 80. Alternatively, the Interbus coach service connects the airport to Taormina bus station (approximately 90 minutes, EUR 8-10), from where you can take a taxi or the cable car down to Mazzaro. Rental cars are available at the airport, though parking at Mazzaro is limited in summer. Cohen House is located on Via Nazionale at Mazzaro, just 20 metres from Isola Bella beach and steps from the lower cable car station.
Mazzarò — Taormina’s Premier Beach District
Cohen House is located at Via Nazionale 202 in Mazzarò, the exclusive seaside district that sits at the foot of Taormina’s famous hilltop town. Just 20 metres from the water’s edge, our position offers what few accommodations in Taormina can claim: genuine beachfront living with the cultural riches of the historic centre just minutes away by cable car.
Isola Bella, the jewel of Mazzarò’s bay, has been a protected nature reserve since 1998. This tiny island connected to the shore by a narrow sandbar is surrounded by crystal-clear waters that are home to diverse marine life. Snorkelling, swimming, and simply admiring the natural beauty are daily pleasures for Cohen House guests.
What Makes Mazzarò Special
Unlike hilltop Taormina, Mazzarò sits at sea level in a sheltered bay, offering direct beach access and a more relaxed atmosphere. The waterfront is lined with excellent seafood restaurants, charming bars, and small shops. The sheltered position of the bay creates calm, warm waters ideal for swimming from May through October.
The Taormina Cable Car
The Funivia Taormina-Mazzarò departs every 15 minutes and completes the journey between beach level and the hilltop town in just 3 minutes. The cable car station is 200 metres from Cohen House, making it effortless to enjoy both the beach lifestyle and Taormina’s historic centre, with its Greek Theatre, Corso Umberto shopping, and panoramic viewpoints.
Day Trips from Mazzarò
Mazzarò is perfectly positioned for exploring eastern Sicily. Mount Etna, Europe’s most active volcano, is just 45 minutes away for hiking and wine tours. The spectacular Alcantara Gorges are a 30-minute drive. The ancient Greek city of Syracuse, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is reachable in 90 minutes. The Aeolian Islands can be visited by hydrofoil from nearby ports.

Discover Taormina, Isola Bella & Eastern Sicily
Taormina has drawn visitors for over 2,000 years. The town sits on a cliff above the Ionian Sea. Its most famous landmark is the Teatro Antico — a Greek-Roman theatre with stunning views of Mount Etna. Corso Umberto, the main pedestrian street, is lined with cafés, boutiques and historic churches. The Villa Comunale gardens offer shaded terraces and panoramic views stretching from Calabria to Etna.
Isola Bella is a protected nature reserve in Mazzarò Bay. A thin sand bar connects the island to the pebble beach. The water is crystal-clear — perfect for snorkelling and kayaking. You can spot sea urchins, colourful fish and seagrass meadows. Glass-bottom boat trips run daily in summer.
Cohen House is at Via Nazionale 202 in Mazzarò. We are just 20 metres from the beach. The cable car to Taormina centre is a 5-minute walk. The ride takes only 3 minutes. Seafood restaurants and lido bars line the waterfront nearby.
